For the past three months, we have been helping brides re-plan weddings.
The results have been varied. Some have postponed their wedding for a year.
Some have decided to get married with just immediate family, and then plan a
reception for the next year. Some have simply gotten married and moved on.
What a decision!
We provided flowers for a wedding in July, that had been rescheduled from May 23rd.
Their guest list was shortened. Guests were seated every third pew. Masks were required and
temperatures were taken when guests entered. The best part is-- two people who
loved each other were married.
My own brother did get married on May 23rd. Rather than the large wedding they had
planned, it was immediate family only. It was outside on a beautiful day. The smiles on
faces when they walked back down the aisle were worth all of the trouble. We had
an absolute blast. I'm not much of a dancer, but when the only people there are ones
you know and have to love you anyway-- why not go for it.
If you are trying to make a decision on what to do, talk with your vendors to see what
your options are. I know, at The Fiddly Fig, we are doing our best to honor the
deposits that have been made and changing dates. It isn't easy, we have lost revenue from
events and weddings and we had to close for 5 weeks. Other vendors may have had
a harder time. Believe me, the members of the wedding and event industry are
struggling with what to do. How to pay our employees and rent, how to retain customers,
how to social distance at work... and the list goes on. No one in this industry or their
clients have been through anything like this before. I think we are all just doing the best
we can.
If you are in this situation, keep your eye on the prize-- You are marrying someone
you love. That is the goal.
Take care and stay well!
